Experiential approach is what is required. Our academics is based on our understanding, the concepts that we have developed and the inputs that we have got, the language that we have developed and all this are going to affect our explanation or understanding. But experience is simple, direct. Anubhava is direct awareness. The same was the case with our sacred Gita and that is the statement that must be understood well and perhaps it must be taken with a pinch of salt by many, because it affects the commentaries that have been given by great people on this subject. I may say here that Bhagavad Gita bhashyas given by the great acharyas are attempts to substantiate the relative points of view of the acharyas whether it is Advaita, Visistadvaita, or Dvaita or the Bheda-Bheda. Each one of the commentaries that they have given is only trying to substantiate their point of view and not to tell what exactly is the truth. That is the misfortune. We inherited it. Some get attached to Ramanuja, somebody will get attached to Sankara and third person to Nimbarka and what shall we do? We fight,
we go on arguing saying that, this is correct and that 118
